Honorable Don Hayward
Minister of Education
Victoria, Australia

Dear Mr. Hayward:

On the occasion of the Student Forum demonstration of educational telecommunications, I am writing to send greetings on behalf of the Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Program, Vice President Al Gore's initiative. Telecommunications has an important role to play in our children's education if they are to be informed and effective stewards of the planet in the Twenty-First Century.

The integration of telecommunications in education will assist in the implementation of international projects such as GLOBE, I*Earn and others. In particular, we look forward to implementing cooperation between the United States and Australia on the GLOBE international environmental education and science program.

We wish you well as you develop successful educational telecommunications projects in Australia.

Sincerely,
Thomas N. Pyke

Director
The GLOBE Program
