From: Victor Minachin, Russian Academy of Sciences

Dear Mr Hayward,

We at the Russian Academy of Sciences have for many years - actually decades - been involved in developing new approaches to secondary school curriculum, as well as the introduction of new technology in the educational process.

The I*EARN center in the Former Soviet Union has been founded in 1991 by the Cybernetics Council of the Russian Academy. The experience of the last four years has convinced us that the infrastructure of I*EARN is a unique and extremely convenient tool for sharing educational traditions and bringing kids and teachers from different countries together on meaningful projects that make a real difference to our the society and the planet.

We especially value our close working relationship with the Australian I*EARN center - which we consider as one of the most dynamic and succesful in the entire I*EARN network. We highly respect and value personal contribution and professional competence of the Australian I*EARN coordinator, Bill Coppinger. His vision and capacity to work almost round the clock is truely amazing.

Until the last year I*EARN was in a pilot stage. Now we have made a decision to expand. I do hope that this expansion will go forward in different dimensions, including setting up more working contacts between Institutions of the Russian Academy involved in education and the Ministry of Education in Victoria.

With the best wishes for success in your important work,
Victor Minachin

Coordinator of the Inter-regional I*EARN Center in Moscow
